Marlion Pickett’s AFL journey was one marked by resilience, talent, and big-game performances. Selected with pick #13 in the 2019 Mid-Season Draft by Richmond, Marlion made an extraordinary debut in the 2019 AFL Grand Final, where he was an influential member of the Tigers' Premiership-winning team. In his first-ever AFL game, Pickett’s standout performance earned him third place in the Norm Smith Medal vote. He accumulated 22 possessions, 9 score involvements, 8 inside 50s, and kicked a crucial goal, instantly establishing himself as a big-game player.
Marlion was also a part of the Richmond Tigers' successful 2020 AFL Premiership team, cementing his legacy as a key contributor to back-to-back premierships in the club's history. His presence in the midfield and ability to perform under pressure were vital to the Tigers' success playing 91 games for the club.
Marlion’s contribution wasn’t limited to the AFL; he was also pivotal in Richmond's VFL Premiership victory, where he was awarded the Norm Goss Memorial Medal as the best player on the ground in the Grand Final. His leadership and determination on the field were vital in both the VFL and AFL successes.
Before making his mark in the AFL, Marlion was a standout in the WAFL, playing 98 games for South Fremantle and winning the prestigious WJ Hughes Medal as the club’s Best & Fairest player in 2018. His journey from the WAFL to the AFL was a testament to his dedication, hard work, and immense talent.
