Hamish Free is a talented ruckman who developed his game in the WAFL before earning an opportunity at the AFL level. Standing at 203cm, Hamish was recruited from South Fremantle in the 2022 Rookie Draft by North Melbourne, where he spent two seasons on the club's list.

Although he did not make a senior AFL appearance, Hamish continued to hone his skills in the VFL, showcasing his ruck craft and physical presence around the ground. In 2024, North Melbourne announced that he would not be offered a contract beyond the season.

Before his time in the AFL system, Hamish was a standout for South Fremantle in the WAFL, where he established himself as a dominant ruckman. His strong performances at the state level caught the attention of recruiters, leading to his AFL opportunity.

With his gained AFL experience, Hamish will be playing for the South Fremantle Football Club in the WAFL for the 2025 season, with hopes of being selected in the AFL mid-season draft.

Hamish would go on to win the Simpson Medal for best on-field in the Bulldogs' 2pt win over the East Perth Royals. It capped off a strong first season back in the WAFL for the 27-year-old after a two-year stint with North Melbourne.
